The Instruments
Following are some of the instruments used in intuitive sound during our sound meditations:
The Tibetan Gong An ancient instrument where brain wave patterns change to allow the person listening to move into a meditative state. Some sounds will give a deeper sense of peace and relaxation. Sometimes the effect can be quite cathartic. This is usually about where the persons psyche i The Gong is one of man’s most powerful and oldest transformational and therapeutic instruments. It has been used for ritual, ceremony, prayer, and meditation since the Bronze Age. The Gongs are made from a brass known as nickel silver to a formula of 63% copper, 25% zinc and 12% nickel. |
They belong to the oldest and most important musical instruments of South East Asia. Their origins may be traced back to the second millennium B.C., but it is assumed that the gong is much older. In Chinese history, gongs are mentioned around 500 A.D., attributed to a nation called HSI YU between Tibet and Burma during the reign of Emperor Hsuan Wu.
“The gong is known as an instrument of transformational power. It is a tool by which we are engulfed in total sound, and through our intuition, we are brought back to optimum health and balance... It is the unique quality of a gong’s resonance that integrates diverse elements into a power of synergy, or functional harmony. We also call the tone produced by the gong a “feeling tone,” because we feel it in our body, as well as hear it.”
--Don Conreaux, Gong Master

Tibetan Singing Bowls
Tibetan Singing Bowls have been used for centuries for healing and meditation purposes. The sounds produced by the Tibetan Bowls have a relaxing hypnotic effect on the brain, slowing brain waves and inducing a deep meditative state. These bowls are mainly contain bronze alloy of copper and tin. |
Shamanic Drums
Shaman Drums can be described as instruments used as part of a ritual or ceremony in which an altered state of consciousness can be attained.
Practitioners believe that this can help them form a bridge to a more spiritual place. John Lee leads us on a sacred sound drumming journey!

Cello
Intuitive, healing cello improvisations – Anne Berry
String instruments date back to ancient times. The cello belongs to the violin family and arrived in its current shape and form in approximately 1650. Like many other string instruments, it has a hollow body so that both the body of the instrument and the air inside vibrate to amplify the sound. The shape of the cello reflects the shape of the head and torso of the human body and one can sense that the whole human body resonates with the sound of the cello.
An exceptionally flexible instrument, the cello’s pitch range is almost 6 octaves reflecting the human voice range from bass to soprano. The cello can be used as an accompanying instrument or as a fine soloist. It can sing, have conversations, provide simple rhythmic accompaniment and imitate many other instruments. Along with its rich resonance, this makes the cello an ideal instrument for healing meditations as it is thought to activate all the chakras.
The cello rests against the heart of its player. Perhaps this contributes to the emotional nature of this instrument’s resonance. Emotions are stimulated by the sound of the cello and it is often used to emphasize emotional moments in movies.
Anne’s improvisations are influenced by the participating group and may have a theme or simply a tonal centre. Anne describes her cello improvisations as like a guided meditation without the words, or like a story with a beginning, middle and end. As you listen to the cello sound you may experience a creative and emotional journey. The rich tonal colour of the cello stimulates and balances the physical and etheric bodies towards a deep state of relaxation.
Anne is an accomplished cellist and cello teacher. Her students are known for their warmth of tone and love of music.

JennCrystal Bowls The use of tuned, deep-vibration instruments such as crystal bowls during healing and meditation can balance dissonant frequencies and bring them back into harmony. Music and chanting have been used for thousands of years to heal and energize the body, mind and emotions. Jenn is playing her crystal bowl and creating harmonies with her voice. It sounds like angels singing! |
